Valentine's Month Massacre (PART ETC...)

Okay, I lied... we weren't quite done with the vintage Valentines yet this month. The reason being last Sunday was The Great Midwest Paper Show here in STL, and finding all these beautiful cards there to add to my collection translates into "better late than never" for everyone! Picked up some really nice "mechanical" cards too (meaning: moving eyes, tongues, limbs, shopping carts, accordions, and a bear that shivers on a frigid radiator!) And look-- more plump hot dog action, PLUS bananas! Hey, ever see a sweetheart tortured in a stockade, or a Bluebeard themed Valentine's card? You will today. NEXT: No more V-cards for a whole year!

Hello Dere!

I remember receiving a Halloween card (this one) as a kid in the 70's, and making the startling revelation (on my own) that the funny witch on the front was drawn by the same guy who also illustrated some of my favorite stories in MAD Magazine: Paul Coker Jr. So sticking with the greeting card theme of the month, though not assigned to any particular holiday, here are the remaining Coker highlights from my copy of HELLO DERE! or, a funny thing happened to me on the way to the mailbox", a squarebound / perforated collection of 25 correspondence (post)cards featuring Coker's unmistakably unique lettering style, linework, and characters.
